LADY LYNX ADD JAPANESE INTERNATIONAL!
Thursday, April 28, 2005 [TORONTO, ON] - The Toronto Lady Lynx have bolstered their roster today with the addition of Japanese international, Yuiko Konno for the 2005 season. Konno will provide the Lady Lynx with a strong scoring threat with experience at the NCAA and international levels. After competing with the Japanese National Collegiate Team, Konno, attended the University of Memphis to continue her studies. She made an immediate impact with the Lady Tigers, leading Conference USA, in scoring with 12 goals and 27 points in 2003. Konno's performance earned her First Team All-Conference, NSCAA All-Central Region and Soccer Buzz's All-Central Region third team honours. After a very impressive performance at the Lady Lynx open trials in March, Lady Lynx Head Coach, Brett Mosen was quick to sign the 24-year old striker from Chiba-prefecture, Japan. Konno spent the previous season with JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies in Japan and will make her W-League debut with the Lady Lynx this season.
LADY LYNX SIGN VERSATILE AMERICAN MIDFIELDER
The Lady Lynx also added some W-League experience to their roster today with the signing of versatile midfielder, Kristen Habenicht. Habenicht, a native of New Hyde Park, New York, spent the 2004 season with the New York Magic where she recorded 2 assists in 11 matches. After a stellar 4-year career at Fairleigh Dickinson University where she was a 2-time All-Northeast Conference selection, Habenicht attended the Lady Lynx open trials on the recommendation of new Lynx head coach, Hubert Busby Jr., a former assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson.
CICCHINI EARNS FIRST SENIOR CAP
Lady Lynx midfielder, Amanda Cicchini, earned the first senior cap of her Canadian National Team career in a 3-1 loss to the defending World Cup Champions Germany on April 21 in Osnabruck, Germany. Cicchini came into the game as a substitute in the 68th minute for National Team veteran Andrea Neil. The former U20 star from Oakville also made her first start for the National Team as Canada concluded their European exhibition tour with a 2-0 win over France yesterday in Strasbourg, France.
Cicchini will return to Canada in time to join her Lady Lynx teammates as they begin training for their inaugural season in the W-League this Monday, May 2 at 4:30pm at Bronte Athletic Field (see below for complete tentative Lady Lynx training schedule). Fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2005 roster in action when they take on the London Gryphons in an exhibition match on Saturday, May 7th at 2pm at Bronte Athletic Field in Oakville. Admission is $3.00 with $1.00 going to support the Oakville Strikers Special Olympics Ontario team and $2.00 as a fundraiser for the Oakville Panthers Womens 35+ team to attend the national championships this summer.
The Lady Lynx will open the regular season at Centennial Park Stadium on Sunday, May 15th at 1pm when they welcome the defending Vermont Lady Voltage. This match will be a double header that also includes the Toronto Lynx home opener versus the defending USL First Division Champion, Montreal Impact at 4pm.
