LADY LYNX SIGN
STAR GOALKEEPER!
Thursday, March 24, 2005 (TORONTO, ON) - The
Toronto Lady Lynx have solidified their goalkeeper situation for their
inaugural W-League season with the addition of Stacey Van
Boxmeer of Collingwood, Ontario. Van Boxmeer is an
experienced international, earning 16 caps with the U-20 Canadian National
Team and recording 7 shutouts. The talented 19-year old was the starting
goalkeeper for the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship in Thailand and
was named top goalkeeper at the 2004 CONCACAF U-19 Qualifying Tournament
with four shut-outs. Van Boxmeer also enjoyed a standout youth soccer career
captaining the Collingwood Comets to the Central Girls Soccer League
championship in 2000, 2001 and 2002, as well as leading her Ontario
provincial teams to national championships in 2000 and 2002. Her success at
the youth level led the Collingwood Collegiate Institute graduate to attend
Indiana University where she was one of the top freshman goalkeepers in the
Big Ten Conference in 2003 before redshirting in 2004 to play at the FIFA
U-19 World Championship. As a freshman, Van Boxmeer appeared in 13 games and
started 6, sharing in 6 shutouts and has earned a spot in the Canadian
Women's National Team pool.
"The goalkeeper selection is arguably the most important
position to fill when putting a team together," explained Lady Lynx head
coach, Brett Mosen. "To fill that position with a player the quality of
Stacey is a huge bonus. Stacey will bring a vital component to our team. We
are delighted to have Stacey on board."
LADY LYNX ADD W-LEAGUE VETERAN
The Lady Lynx are also pleased to announce the signing
defender/midfielder, Holly Lincoln. Lincoln has played the
previous two seasons with the previous W-League Toronto franchise. A former
member of the U-19 Canadian National team, Lincoln, proved that she belongs
in the W-League last season when she ranked 3rd in minutes played while
scoring 1 goal and adding 3 assists. A native of North York, Lincoln,
attended Agincourt Collegiate where she was a standout in both soccer and
track, winning the Scarborough Championship three times in the 400M. She
also teamed with Van Boxmeer on the 2000 and 2002 Ontario provincial teams
that captured the national championship and was a member of the Canadian
National developmental teams at the U-16, U-17 and U-18 levels. Lincoln
played her youth soccer with the Scarborough United Soccer Club.
"Holly brings experience to our team," Mosen says. "She has
played at the International, NCAA and most importantly the W-League level.
She will be an important figure for our younger less experienced players."
