Wednesday January 4, 2006 (TORONTO, ON) - Three Toronto
Jr. Lynx alumni, Alex Ruhe-Lischke, Daniel Revivo, and John Jonke,
will accompany Dale Mitchell's Canadian U20 team to the Chivas Cup in
Mexico from January 7-11. All three players previously played on the
U17 Toronto Lynx Junior Team coached by Tom Croft in 2004 where they
went undefeated and became semi-finalists in the Super Y League North
American Finals. Both Revivo and Jonke also played for the Toronto Lynx
U19 team which was the first Canadian team since the 1980's to gain a
final berth in the prestigious Dallas Cup in 2005.
Three other Junior Lynx alumni were also involved in the recent U20
identification camp here in Toronto two weeks ago. Taylor McNamara,
Adam Catley and Erik Di Lorenzo joined the three other Lynx players to
form a strong Junior Lynx presence at the camp.
"Everyone
involved in the Junior Lynx Academy is very proud of
our
representation at the recent U20 training camp," comments Academy
Director Duncan Wilde. "It sends a positive message to our younger
players within the program. We feel confident that some of our players
will qualify for the final squad selection for the 2007 World Youth
Championships".
Canada will be competing in the Chivas Cup against Italian giants, Inter
Milan, as well as four other Mexican clubs, Chivas, Tigres, San Luis and
Morelia to form Group I of the competition. The Chivas Cup is but one
of the tournaments entered by the U20 Canadian team in their preparation
for the FIFA World Youth Championships to be held in Canada in 2007.
All three Jr. Lynx players are products of the U.S. college soccer
system and are a part of an incredible list of 12 Junior Lynx
players from the 2004 U17 Jr. Lynx team who are on soccer scholarships
south of the border. Jonke plays with Louisville (along with his
brother, U19 Jr. Lynx alumnus Frank), while Revivo toils at Winthrop and
Rue-Liske joining McNamara and Di Lorenzo at Albany. You can follow the
