U20 NATIONAL TEAM DEFENDER RUSHTON RETURNS FOR 2006
FRIDAY MARCH 30, 2006 (TORONTO, ON) The Toronto Lady Lynx announced the signing of four players in advance of the 2006 W-League season, which kicks off in Toronto on May 13 when the Lady Lynx host the Rochester Rhinos at Centennial Park Stadium. Robin Rushton, Nicole Mailloux and Loredana Riverso return, while Sara Scharoun joins the squad for her first season.
Defender Rushton, a member of Canada’s U20 National Team, is just completing her freshman year at West Virginia University, where she started all 19 games during the 2005 NCAA season. The Mountaineers finished the season ranked 19th in the US, reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament. In January, she was part of the U20 squad that finished second in the U20 CONCACAF Qualifying tournament in Mexico which allowed Canada to qualify for the 2006 FIFA U20 Women’s World Championships to be held in Russia in August/September. Rushton played in 8 regular season and 3 playoff games last year with the Lady Lynx, tallying one assist and providing solid defense for the team. She will be counted on by coach Danny Stewart to provide veteran leadership at the back for the year’s squad.
Defender Mailloux and midfielder Riverso are are exciting young players who are expected to take their games to the next level. Scharoun, a defender, joins the club after competing for Burlington in the OYSL in 2005.
Lady Lynx Open Trials
The Lady Lynx will hold an evaluation session for players tomorrow afternoon, Saturday April 1, at the Oakville Soccer Centre from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM. Open trials will be held on Saturday April 8 at 10:00 PM at Iceland Mississauga. Interested players should contact Rob Irwin @ 416-251-4625 x 23 to reserve a spot in either session.
Limited Super Y Spaces Left
The Toronto Lady Lynx Juniors have limited space on their roster for players born between 1989-1991 for the upcoming Super Y League season. Interested players should contact Duncan Wilde at the Toronto Lynx Premier Soccer Academy at 905-469-8783.
