2007 LYNX AND LADY LYNX SCHEDULES UNVEILED

THURSDAY JANUARY 25, 2007 (TORONTO, ON) The Toronto Lynx and Lady Lynx pulled the wraps off of their respective 2007 schedules this afternoon, in advance of their upcoming United Soccer Leagues seasons.  The long road towards the playoffs for both clubs begins on Saturday May 12, 2007 at Centennial Park Stadium with a season-opening doubleheader.  The Lady Lynx kick-off the afternoon with a 1:00 PM W-League encounter with their northern rivals the Sudbury Canadians, and the Lynx will cap the afternoon at 4:00 with a tussle against the visiting West Michigan Edge.

The opener promises to be an exciting event as the Lynx celebrate the start of the soccer season throughout the Greater Toronto Area with a "Youth Soccerfest" theme, welcoming the many youth clubs who have faithfully supported the club over the years. The club will also introduce its 2007 Toronto Lynx Jr's Super-Y League boys and girls teams as part of the festivities.

The Lady Lynx' third season will feature 12 matches, including six home matches at Centennial Park Stadium.  The club will play each team in the Northern Division twice, once at home and once on the road.  Highlights include the popular Lady Lynx School Day match on Wednesday, May 31 at 11:00 AM versus the Hamilton Avalanche and attended by students from public and private schools from the GTA.  The annual Lady Lynx Youth Day match takes place on Wednesday July 18 at 12:00 PM versus the Rochester Rhinos featuring the continued support of local community centres and summer camps.  Perennial rival and 2006 W-League runner-up Ottawa Fury will make their lone visit to Toronto on Sunday June 10 at 4:00 PM on Health and Fitness Day.  The regular season will wrap up for the Lady Lynx with the annual Fan Appreciation Day/End of Season Awards Celebration on Saturday, July 21 at 4:00 PM against the Laval Comets.

Head coach Danny Stewart expects this to be another successful campaign for his young Lady Lynx team.  "This year, our players will have a little more experience, and that will help us, especially in our battles with Ottawa.  We were very close last year in the playoffs against the Fury, and we know this year we can compete with them and all of the other tough clubs in division".

Following their opener on May 12, the Lynx will play an additional three home games to open the season before taking to the road for six of their next seven matches.  Highlights of the Lynx schedule include a May 25 School Day match-up against the Chicago Fire Premier (11:00 AM) and Youth Day at 12:00 PM on July 11 against the Cleveland Internationals.  The defending PDL champion Michigan Bucks make their sole visit to Toronto on Sunday June 3 at 6:00 PM, and the home schedule wraps up on Sunday, July 15 at 4:00 PM on Fan Appreciation Day with a visit by the Fort Wayne Fever.

2007 marks the Lynx' debut in the Premier Development League, after ten memorable seasons in the USL First Division.    The team will play in the highly competitive Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference, and will contest a 16-game schedule within the division.

"Re-aligning the men's first team into the PDL for 2007 has been a very challenging, but so far rewarding experience" said Lynx Head Coach Duncan Wilde. "For the first time ever, we can field a roster featuring some of our very talented young players who have progressed through our Academy program to the very demanding world of NCAA Division I Soccer. These players can now come home and play at an extremely high level with the Lynx, while maintaining their college eligibility.   The standard of play in the PDL is excellent and I am very much looking forward to competing in a division that include such high-quality teams like the Chicago Fire Premier and the Michigan Bucks. It makes for an exciting season."   Wilde expects to announce the first wave of player signings for the 2007 roster in the coming weeks.
