Will play Cleveland at Brian Timmis Stadium
WEDNESDAY JUNE 11, 2008 (Toronto, CANADA) The Toronto Lynx announced today details of their “Steeltown Showdown” match to be held on July 1, 2008 at Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton. The Lynx will head down the QEW to host the Cleveland Internationals at 4:00 PM as part of a triple-header of soccer action in conjunction with the Hamilton Spectator Cup. The Premier Development League game between Toronto and Cleveland will be preceded by a pair of high-school all-star games featuring players from the recently staged Hamilton Spectator Cup.
The day will kick off at 11:00 AM with the girls’ all-star match, followed by the boys’ all-stars taking the pitch at 1:30 PM. Tickets will be priced at $10 per adult and $5 for youths, with groups of 20 or more priced at $8 per adult and $4 per youth. A special 2-for-1 ticket price is being offered for all high school students for the match. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Lynx ticket office at 416-251-4625 x 31 or by emailing tickets@lynxsoccer.com. Fans in the Hamilton area can also arrange tickets by contacting Steve Kalotinis at 905-523-0380 or stevekal@cogeco.ca.
The Lynx see the match as an opportunity to expand their reach across Southern Ontario, and showcase their exciting brand of soccer to new fans outside of Toronto. The event will be the first of three “Lynxfest” events to be held in 2008, which sees the Lynx and Lady Lynx staging matches in surrounding cities in conjunction with local soccer clubs. On July 5, the Lady Lynx will travel east to host the Rochester Rhinos at 4:00 PM at Oshawa Civic Stadium through a continuing partnership with the Pickering Soccer Club and Durham Soccer Association. The following weekend sees the Lynx and Lady Lynx travel to Bolton to each host home games at Edelweiss Park on Saturday July 12, hosted by the Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club to celebrate the club’s 30th anniversary. The Lady Lynx kick off at 1:00 PM hosting the Western Mass Pioneers followed by the Lynx and the Indiana Invaders at 5:00 PM. Bolton’s event will also feature a week-long elite soccer camp to be instructed by the Toronto Lynx and Lady Lynx coaching staff and players.
Lynx head coach Duncan Wilde and assistant coach Billy Steele have a strong Hamilton connection, having coached the Hamilton Thunder of the CSL in 2004. “We are excited to be returning to Hamilton, as we enjoyed our time here immensely during our spell with the Thunder. Hamilton has a strong core of knowledgeable soccer supporters, and we hope to introduce them to the Lynx with this game.” said Wilde.
LYNX AND LADY LYNX HIT THE ROAD
The Toronto Lynx and Lady Lynx have a busy week in store for them with two away games apiece in the coming days. The undefeated Lady Lynx travel to Hamilton this evening for an 8:00 PM encounter with the Hamilton Lady Avalanche before heading east to Ottawa to battle the Fury on Sunday evening, their first big test of the season against their fierce rivals. The Lady Lynx will be looking for their first-ever win over the Fury and retain their perch atop the Northern Division.
The 4-1-0 Lynx head to Chicago this evening, looking to avenge their lone loss of the year, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Fire on May 30 at Varsity Stadium. The red-hot Lynx, off to their second-best start in franchise history, will then head to South Bend, Indiana for a Friday the 13th encounter against the Invaders. The Lynx return home on Sunday afternoon to Centennial Park Stadium to host the West Virginia Chaos, their third match in five days. Tickets for the Sunday home game can be purchased through the Lynx box office at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the stadium one hour prior to kick off.
