2008 SCHEDULE SEES LYNX RETURN TO VARSITY
The Lynx will begin their 12th campaign, and their second PDL season, on Wednesday May 28 at Centennial Park Stadium when they welcome the Fort Wayne Fever for the club's popular annual School Day matinee match at 11:00 AM. The team will then head downtown for a Friday evening tilt at 7:30 PM at Varsity Centre against arch-rival Chicago Fire Premier on "Homecoming Night" celebrating the Lynx' return to the site of their former home stadium. The club plans to welcome back former Lynx stars and honour its rich history throughout the evening.
As with the Lady Lynx, the Lynx will take part in two brand new "Lynxfest" events in 2008. Toronto will celebrate Canada Day in Maple, hosting the Cleveland Internationals at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School at 4:00 PM. The event will include a double-header with the Vaughan Italia Shooters of the CSL, and will include three-day Toronto Lynx Fantasy Camp to take place in the days following the match.
The Lynx will then join the Lady Lynx in Bolton on Saturday, July 12 with a 5:00 PM encounter against the Indiana Invaders at Edelweiss Park, following the Lady Lynx match against the Western Mass Pioneers at 1:00 PM. The doubleheader will cap off a week of festivities and events in the town hosted by the Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club in celebration of the club's 30th anniversary. The Lynx and Lady Lynx will also be staging a week-long camp session in Bolton in the week prior to the match as part of the event.
Other highlights of the schedule include a June 1 doubleheader at Centennial Stadium with the Lady Lynx. The Lady Lynx will kick-off the action at 1:00 PM with a match against the Vermont Lady Voltage, prior to the Lynx' 4:00 PM game against the West Michigan Edge. The Lynx will again host their annual "Summer Sizzler Youth Day" matinee on Wednesday July 16 at 11:00 AM at Varsity Centre versus the Cincinnati Kings, before wrapping up their regular season against 2007 PDL finalist Michigan Bucks on Sunday July 20 at 4:00 PM at Varsity Centre.
"We are starting the season a bit later this year," said Lynx Head Coach Duncan Wilde, "and this will allow us an opportunity to have all of our players in camp before we start the season. Last year, we had a number of players who were finishing up their exams at school and missed the start of the season. In addition to these players, we fully expect that the core of our successful U20 team will step up and become significant contributors with the PDL team in 2008."
To accommodate three new clubs into the Central Conference of the PDL, the league re-aligned the conference into three divisions for the 2008 season. The Lynx will remain in the Great Lakes Division, along with the Cleveland Internationals and the Michigan Bucks. The three returning clubs will be joined by the Cincinnati Kings from USL-2 and the West Virginia Chaos (See below for full alignment). The top team in the conference following the regular season will earn a bye into the conference finals tournament, with the remaining top two teams in each division meeting in a midweek divisional round single-elimination to determine the three other participants. The winner of the tournament will then represent the Midwest Division in the PDL semi-finals.
Great Lakes Division: Cincinnati Kings, Cleveland Internationals, Michigan Bucks, Toronto Lynx, West Virginia Chaos
Heartland Division: Colorado Rapids U23, Des Moines Menace, Kansas City Brass, Springfield Demize, St Louis Lions, Thunder Bay Chill
Midwest Division: Chicago Fire Premier, Fort Wayne Fever, Indiana Invaders, Kalamazoo Outrage, West Michigan Chaos
