Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx extended their unbeaten streak to 4 games this afternoon, defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-1 in front of almost 4,000 fans at Centennial Park Stadium.  The Lynx welcomed youth groups and summer camps from around the GTA for their annual Youth Day presented by Pizza Pizza and Lynx media partner City Parent / News 4 Kids. On a hot afternoon, youth in attendance were treated to performances by the pop band Preconfused and the Etobicoke Spectrum Baton Club before taking in the top level of professional soccer in our country.

The first half started slowly, with both teams feeling each other out in the first ten minutes.  Toronto took the lead in the 19th minute when Atlanta goalkeeper Christian Fegler fumbled Jamie Dodds' cross.  The ball fell to Sean Fraser who shot past two Atlanta defenders and into the goal.

Atlanta equalized a minute later when USL First Division goal scoring leader and Jamaican International Fabian Dawkins ran onto Ivo Ilarionov's pass and fired past Toronto 'keeper Richard Goddard.  Toronto came close to retaking the lead in the 28th minute when Sean Fraser outran his marker down the right side before firing a shot that beat Fegler but skipped along the goal line and rolled out.

Toronto retook the lead in the 37th minute when Sean Fraser's pass was picked up by Charles Gbeke inside the area.  He controlled and hit a low, hard shot that beat Fegler from close range.  Considerable pressure from Toronto in the closing stages of the first half produced no more goals and it was 2-1 to Toronto after 45 minutes.

Second half action produced no goals, but many chances.  Charles Gbeke hit a shot first time from just inside the area, but his effort sailed over Fegler's goal.  Atlanta came close to equalizing in the 86th minute when second half substitute Sergio Inigues' shot from 20 yards out was slightly high.

Toronto's Wyn Belotte had two chances to add to the tally at the end of the match, but both of his shots were well over Fegler's goal.  It was 2-1 to Toronto as full time sounded.

Toronto's Sean Fraser picked up a goal and an assist, while his striking partner Charles Gbeke picked up his second goal in as many games after returning to Toronto after a season in Denmark.  Atlanta's Fabian Dawkins' goal left him in first place in the USL First Division scoring standings with ten goals.

This afternoon's win extends Toronto's unbeaten streak to 4 games, and moves them into 11th place in USL First Division standings.  Toronto's next match is at home on July 22nd when they host the defending champions Montreal Impact at 7:30 PM.
