Match Summary:
The Toronto Lynx continued their 2005
USL First Division campaign this
evening, losing 1-0 away to the
Rochester Raging Rhinos in front of 8
850 fans at Paetec Park in Rochester,
New York.
The game was scoreless until the 69th
minute, when Greg Howes scored the only
goal of the game. Toronto and Trinidad
and Tobago international goalkeeper
Richard Goddard made an acrobatic stop
off a Rochester shot but was unable to
hold onto the rebound. Howes tapped in
from close range.
It was the first goal for Howes in
Rochester colours. Howes, who signed
for Rochester just this week, was the
MISL's MVP and Scoring Champion this
season. It was also Howes' 50th goal in
the USL First Division (formerly known
as the A-League).
Lynxsoccer.com spoke with Lynx Head
Coach Hubert Busby Jr. after the match.
"We didn't take our chances, while they
took a chance from our mistake. We now
have a long break to rest and heal our
injuries, and get ready to grab our
first win."
Tonight's result leaves Toronto
(0-8-4) in 12th position in the USL
First Division. Rochester
(4-4-1) moves into a tie with Minnesota
for 6th place, and the final playoff
spot. Toronto's next game is on the
road against the Minnesota Thunder on
June 24th, at 8:05 PM.
Notes:
Toronto and
Rochester already played once this
season, with that match ending 5-3 to
Rochester at Centennial Park Stadium on
May 31st. Rochester's Kirk Wilson scored
3 goals that game. Toronto entered
tonight's match with an all-time record
of 9-20-4 (2-14-0 in Rochester) against
the Rhino's. Former Rochester goalkeeper
Theo Zagar did not play for the Lynx
tonight because of a thigh
injury.
