Match Summary:
 

The Toronto Lynx continued their USL First Division campaign, playing to a 2-2 draw in front of 3,392 at Centennial Park Stadium on a hot and humid afternoon.  Former Lynx and recent Tottenham Hotspur signing Paul Stalteri was on hand for the ceremonial coin toss and a meet and greet with fans, as was Canadian Soccer Hall of Famer, Dr. Tom Fried for the ceremonial kickoff.

 

Toronto came close to scoring in the 1st minute when Sean Fraser broke through Charleston’s defense only to be denied by Battery goalkeeper Mike Behonik.

 

Charleston went ahead on the next play when Chris Goos tapped Kevin Jackson’s cross first time off the left post and in.

 

Toronto tied in 20th minute through Jamie Dodds’ second goal in two games.  Dodds picked up the ball 30 yards out, ran in and sent in a low hard shot from just inside the area.  Charleston ‘keeper Mike Behonik got a hand to it, but could not keep it out.

 

Toronto came close in the 27th minute when Jeremie Piette headed Dodds’ corner, forcing Behonik into a diving save.

 

Charleston almost retook the lead in the 36th minute when Jesus Martinez found himself alone in front of goal, only to be denied by Lynx ‘keeper Goddard. Unfortunately, Goddard was injured on the play and would be replaced at halftime by Theo Zagar.

 

It was 1-1 after 45 minutes.

 

Charleston were reduced to 10 men when Drew Kop was shown a red card after he brought down Sean Fraser just outside the 18 yard box.  Dodds took the fee kick but put it over the bar.

 

Charleston retook the lead in the 59th minute when Alon Lebezky picked up Martinez’s pass deep inside Toronto’s area and shot passed Zagar and into the roof of the net.

 

Toronto made the most of their numerical superiority, and applied pressure to Charleston’s end of the field for most of the last half hour.  Jamie Dodds’ shot from 20 yards out came off of Behonik’s post in the 87th minute.

 

Toronto equalized deep into injury time.  Sita Tatay Matondo picked up Sean Fraser’s pass inside Charleston’s box, slipping the ball past Behonik sending fans at Centennial Park Stadium into a frenzy.

 

It was 2-2 as the full time whistle sounded. 

 

Toronto improved to 1-8-5 as a result of today’s match, and will hope to continue their momentum when they host the Seattle Sounders on July 16th at Centennial Park Stadium.
 
Notes: Toronto entered today's match with a record of of 1-8-4.  Their first win of the season came on the road on June 24th when they defeated Minessota 2-1.  Charleston were fresh off their 1-0 defeat last night in Rochesster, and brought a record of 5-8-2 into today's encounter.  Toronto had traditionally not faired well against Charleston, with an all-time record of 2-9-0 against the Battery.  The last match between both clubs in Toronto ended 2-0 in Charleston's favour back in July of 2004.
 
Highlights:  
 

1st min.  Referee Isaac Raymond begins play.  Toronto, in white and black, attacks to the left.  Charleston, in yellow and black, attack to the right.

 

2nd min.  Sean Fraser come close to opening scoring.  He runs onto Matondo’s through ball for a breakaway, but Battery ‘keeper Behonik comes out to cut down the angle and make the stop.

 

2nd min.  Goal!  Chris Goos makes it 1-0.  Goss connects with Lubesky's cross,  hitting it first time across goal, off the left post and in.

 

10th min.  Toronto earns a free kick just outside the area.  Jamie Dodds sends in a shot that sails wide.

 

20th min.  Goal! Toronto equalize through Jamie Dodds.  He picks up the ball 30 yards out, runs in and sends a low hard in swinging shot that Behonik gets a hand to but can’t keep out.

 

27th min.  Jeremie Piette heads Jamie Dodds’ corner, but Behonik makes a spectacular diving save to deny him at the left post.

 

34th min.  Wyn Belotte shoots from inside the area but Behomik makes the stop and holds onto the ball.

 

36th min.  Charleston’s Jesus Martinez runs onto a long through ball and strikes first time, but Goddard is there to make the stop.

 

45th min.  Belotte runs onto a through ball, but Behonik runs out and beats him to it.

 

47th min.  Martinez has a breakaway, but Zagar comes well out of goal to tackle and disposes him of the ball.

 

49th min.  Sean Fraser is brought down just outside of the area.  Charleston’s Drew Kopp is shown a red card for the tackle.  Dodds takes the free kick but sends it over the bar.

 

53rd min.  Matondo dribbles past his marker, but his shot is straight at Behonik who holds onto the ball.

 

59th min.  DiPlacido sends in an out swinging cross that Fraser heads, forcing Behonik into a save.

 

60th min.  Goal!  Alan Lebezky retakes the lead for Charleston.  He picks up a loose ball just to the left of goal, and sends a shot past Zagar and into the roof of the net.

 

68th min.  Toronto come close to equalizing after a goalmouth scramble, which eventually ends in a Charleston free kick.

 

82nd min.  Jeremie Piette heads Dodds’ free kick towards goal, but Behonik makes the stop.

 

83rd min.  Toronto come close to equalizing.  Behonik comes out to punch away a cross, leaving his goal exposed.  Eja-Tabe shoots towards the open goal, but his effort comes off the post.

 

87th min.  Jamie Dodds sends in a shot from 20 yards out.  His effort beats Behonik, but comes of the post.

 

90th min.  Goal! Toronto equalize deep into injury time.  Matondo picks up Sean Fraser’s pass inside the area, and slots is passed Behonik.
