Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx continued their 2005 season this afternoon winning 2-0 in front of 1430 fans at Centennial Stadium.

The opening 25 minutes were relatively calm, as both teams patiently felt each other out.

Toronto broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. Yuiko Konno challenged Vermont 'keeper Kristin Luckenbill after a back pass from her defender, winning the ball and firing into the empty goal.

Konno made it two for herself and the Lynx a mere four minutes later.  After a pass from Amanda Cicchini, Konno faked around her marker and fired past Luckenbill and into the bottom right of the goal.

It was 2-0 to Toronto after the first 45 minutes.

The second interval produced no goals.

Vermont came close to scoring a number of times.  Karen Burke's free kick in the 66th minute forced Stacey VanBoxmeer to push the ball out for a corner, while Caroline Vanderpool came close in the 72nd and 85th minute.

Her effort in the 72nd minute resulted in a quality save from VanBoxmeer who compiled 5 saves on her way to another shutout.

It was 2-0 to Toronto as the final whistle blew.  Yuiko Konno was outstanding for Toronto, scoring twice.  Vermont's Karen Burke was most impressive for her side, creating many chances.  Toronto improved to 4-0-0 and solidified their first place position in the standings with this afternoon's result.

This afternoon’s match was a special Women in Sports Day, honoring women's contribution to sports including a performance by the Etobicoke Olympium Rhythmic Gymnastics Club and ceremonial kickoff by Estelle Nicholls of the Ontario Soccer Association.

Toronto came into this afternoon's encounter with an impressive 3-0-0 record, scoring six times and allowing only one.

The conceded goal came against today's opponent when they played last month.  The Lynx won that match 3-1 in overtime.  Kim Warner scored both the winner and the third goal that day.

Vermont came into Centennial Stadium this afternoon with a record of 2-3-0.  Vermont (6 points) sat second to the Lynx (9 points) in the Eastern Conference's Northern Division.  Toronto's last match was a 1-0 victory away to Sudbury, while Vermont's last test ended 2-0 in Rochester's favor in Rochester.  A very different Lynx side earned Toronto’s last win.

Head Coach Brett Mosen had to cope with the fact that seven of his players were away for an U-18 national training camp when they traveled to Sudbury.  Today's Toronto side was back to full capacity
