Match Summary:
The Toronto Lynx hosted the Rochester Raging Rhinos this morning for the
Lynx' annual school day. Today's match followed a thrilling eight
goal match that ended in a tie two days ago against Puerto Rico at the
same venue. The Lynx entered today's encounter still looking for their
first win of the season. Both Toronto and Rochester have gotten off to
a slow start in their 2005 campaigns. Rochester brought a record of
1-4-1 and 11th place in the USL First Division standings, while Toronto
entered today's encounter with a record of 0-5-3 which left them in 12th
place. A win for either team would move them up two places in the
standings. Rochester have traditionally been tough opponents for the
Lynx, with Toronto holding an all-time record of 9-19-4 against them.
One of those nine wins came the last time the two teams faced one
another at Centennial, when Toronto won 2-1in May of 2004. Jamie Dodds,
who scored once and added two assists last game, was in the starting
eleven, as was Dave Simpson who scored twice against Puerto
Rico. Rochester scored early, through Frank Sanfillipo in the 4th
minute. His shot was a thunderous one that zipped past Zagar and into
the roof of the goal. Rochester was up 4-0 after only 17 minutes
through goals by John Ball in the 13th minute, and Kevin Wilson in the
15th, and 17th. Toronto pulled one back in the 41st minute off a well
taken free kick by Jamie Dodds. It was his second goal in two
games, both coming off of free-kicks. Rochester made it a 4 goal margin
again in the 43rd minute, with Kevin Wilson's third of the game.
Toronto's Sita-Tatay Matondo was taken off for treatment in the 44th
minute after receiving an elbow to the face. Toronto pulled two back in
the 72nd, and 83rd minutes from Sean Fraser and Urbain Some, however it
would not be enough. Today's result left the Lynx in 12th position in
the USL First Division, and still in search of their first win of the
season. Toronto's next game is on the road in Montreal when they take
on the Impact on Friday June 3rd at 7:30 PM EST before returning home to
face Portland on Saturday, June 4th at 7:30pm.
