Match Summary:
The Toronto Lynx and the Rochester Rhinos fought to a one-all draw this evening on a humid evening at PAETEC Park in Rochester, NY . The tie raises the Lynx' record to 5-12-5 (20 points) on the season, while Rochester improves to 10-4-8 (38 points) and moves them into a three-way for second with Charleston and Vancouver in the USL First Division table. The match was the third of four meetings between the two rivals this season, and was the second consecutive 1-1 tie between the clubs. Rochester won the first match of the year between the two clubs 2-0 on May 13 at Centennial Park Stadium and lead the season series 1-0-2.
The first half was an even affair with both teams trading chances. Neither team
was able to convert, and the teams went to the locker room level at zero. The
Rhinos opened the scoring in the 58th minute on Rey Martinez' first goal of the
season. The midfielder, who had numerous chances in the first half, fielded a
pass from Jonny Steele all alone at the top of the box, and chipped it over a
charging Theo Zagar. The Lynx levelled the score late in the second half when
Matt Palleschi was brought
down in the box by substitute Tenywa Bonseu, and awarded a penalty by referee
Ben Jones. Jamie Dodds struck the ball with authority past a diving Scott
Vallow to level the score. The goal was Dodds' fifth on the season, giving him
the team lead. Neither team was able to score in the final minutes of the game
and the game ended in a stalemate.
The Lynx and Rhinos meet on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM on Emergency Services
Night at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto to play the back end of the
home-and-home series. Emergency Services organizations from across the GTA
will be on-hand with displays and demonstrations throughout the evening,
including the Toronto Police, the OPP, the Canadian Red Cross, Toronto EMS and
Toronto Public Health and Animal Services. Tickets are still available for the
match and can be purchased two hours prior to kick off at the Centennial Park
Stadium Box Office.
Notes: The match was David Diplacido's 200th career match for the Lynx.
He is the first Lynx player to reach that milestone.Shawn Faria made his season
debut, earning the start.Andres Arango missed the match due to accumulated
yellow cards throughout the season.Tony Menezes returned to the Lynx lineup
after missing nearly two months with a knee injury.Gordon Chin picked up his
fifth yellow card of the season and will miss the August 27th match against
Puerto Rico.

5th Minute: Steele's blast from deep on the left flank is handled easily by
Zagar.
11th Minute: Ball crosses to Martinez at the top of the six-yard box but his
header flies inches over the Lynx net.
19th Minute: Bartolomeu heads Martinez's cross from deep in Lynx territory to
safety, keeping the scoresheet level.
21st Minute: Aristodemo's lunging kick sails over an outstretched Vallow but
also clears into touch.
23rd Minute: Jeffrey strikes a powerful free kick from directly in front of the
Rhinos net, 20 yards out, but Vallow makes a diving save on the bending shot.
38th Minute: Martinez brings down a long cross to the left of Zagar and hammers
a left-footer towards the Lynx net. The ball misses the target and sails two
feet wide.
42nd Minute: Faria wins a 50/50 ball in the midfield on a Zagar goal-kick and
feeds Diplacido, who rushes towards goal and drops back to Jeffrey. Jeffrey
steps into the kick and Vallow is forced to leap and direct the ball over the
net into safety.
43rd Minute: Steele is sent in on a breakaway but a charging Zagar dives in
front of his shot to deny the Rhinos once again.
51st Minute: Dodds strikes free kick from 25 yards out and the ball is deflected
to Titus who flicks on to Jeffrey inside the six-yard box. Jeffrey unable to get
his foot on the ball and it is cleared to safety.

Minute: Delicate turns and strikes towards goal from the top of the box, but
the bull sails wide left.
57th Minute: Free kick from 26 yards out, but Dodd's strike flies harmlessly
wide and high.
58th Minute: Steele feeds Martinez alone in front of the Lynx penalty area;
Martinez controls the pass and chips it over a charging Zagar and scores his
first goal of the season. Rhinos 1, Lynx 0.
61st Minute: Howes hits the crossbar on a fierce strike from 20 yards out.
64th Minute: Palleschi's shot from the top corner of the 18-yard box is
corralled by Vallow.
71st Minute: Aristodemo beats the Rhinos defense and dribbles alone from the
right flank towards the goal. Vallow makes a lunging save, and the ball is
deflected towards an unmarked Palleschi. Bertz barely beats Palleschi to the
ball and it is cleared to Dodds, who misses his kick and the ball is cleared to
safety.
82nd Minute: Palleschi is brought down in the box by Bonseu and is award a
penalty kick by the referee. Dodds powers the penalty low and left on Vallow
into the back of the net to level the score. Lynx 1, Rhinos 1.
89th Minute: Palleschi dribbles through the Rhinos defense towards goal from
midfield, but his shot from deep in the 18-yard box is stopped easily by Vallow.
