Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx continued their impressive USL-1 run this evening, defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks 4-2 in front of 1939 fans at the brand new RMGA Stadium in Atlanta Georgia.

Toronto entered tonight’s game with an impressive record of 4-1-2 through their last 7 games, while Atlanta entered tonight’s match in the 5th place overall with an 8-6-4 record.

Atlanta got on the board first after 16 minutes of play.  Antonio De La Torre’s free kick found Jason McLaughlin in Toronto’s bow and he buried his header past Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar.  That was the only goal of the first half, and it was 1-0 to Atlanta at the break.

Toronto Head Coach Duncan Wilde made three substitutions at the half, bringing on Damien Pottinger for Mat Palleschi, Neto for Diplacido, and Steele for Bartolomeu.

The changes paid dividends as Toronto were back on level terms four minutes after the restart.  Atlanta goalkeeper Felipe Quintero made a stop off of a Toronto shot but could not hold onto the ball, allowing Kevin Jeffrey to tap in the rebound.

Toronto took the lead in the 66th minute when Jeffrey slotted home Jamie Dodds’ pass, leaving the Trinidadian with his second goal of the game.

Jeffrey was again involved two minutes later when the Lynx made it a two goal margin.  He slipped the ball through to Neto and the Brazilian made no mistake as he ran onto the ball to tuck it past Quintero.

Toronto’s offensive outburst did not stop there, and it was 4-1 to Toronto three minutes later.  Jamie Dodds’ free kick made it past the wall and beat Quintero at the far post.  Dodds’ goal finished a three goal run in the span of five minutes.

Atlanta got a goal back four minutes from time when Liam George tapped in the rebound after Millwood’s shot was stopped by Zagar.  Atlanta’s goal was too little too late, and it was 4-2 to Toronto at the final whistle.

Tonight’s victory was Toronto’s first road triumph this season, while Atlanta suffered only its second loss at home this season.  Both clubs had already faced each other once this season, that game ending 1-0 in the Lynx’s favour last month in Toronto.

Kevin Jeffrey was most impressive this evening, scoring twice and assisting on another in tonight’s match, while Jamie Dodds scored once and collected an assist.

Tonight’s victory improves Toronto’s record to 5-10-4, leaving them in 11th place of the USL First Division.  Toronto is now 5-1-2 in their last eight matches.

Toronto takes its impressive record to Blackbaud Stadium tomorrow evening when they take on the Charleston Battery at 7:30 PM for the second half of their weekend doubleheader.
