Match Summary:

 

The Toronto Lynx dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 loss away to the Charleston Battery this evening in front of 3894 fans at Blackbaud Stadium.

 

Toronto entered tonight’s match after defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks 4-2 in Atlanta last night.

 

Charleston took the lead in the 26 minutes when Ben Hollingsworth headed down Tim Karalexis’ centering pass, beating Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar at the back post.

 

Toronto came close to an equaliser five minutes later when Dave Diplacido sent in a dangerous shot from 20 yards out that was deflected out by a Charleston defender.  It was Hollingsworth’s goal that separated both clubs at the half.

 

Charleston added to their tally five minutes after the restart.  Hollingsworth squared a pass back to Okoye which the midfielder hit first time, sending the ball past Zagar and into the top right corner.

 

Toronto continued to press forward despite being two goals down, and got one back in the 80th minute.  Neto’s run ended with an excellent dipping shot that beat Charleston ¡®keeper Dusty Haddock, giving the Brazilian his third goal in as many games.  Toronto continued to press forward looking for an equaliser, but it was 2-1 to Charleston at the final whistle.

 

Charleston’s Ben Hollingsworth led his team victory tonight with a goal and an assist, while Neto scored his fourth goal for the Lynx this season, also his third in three games.

 

Toronto in now 5-11-4 and sits in 11th place of the USL First Division.  Toronto has a record of 5-2-2 in their last nine games. 

 

Toronto is next in action of August 10th when they travel to Minnesota to take on the Thunder at 8:05 PM
